60 years of history through a unique exhibition

Some of you may have already had the privilege of discovering it: our 60th-anniversary exhibition now flourishes in the main corridor of our lobby.

We invite you on a journey through the decades of our establishment’s history, uncovering hidden anecdotes and precious memories. This retrospective is a captivating immersion into our heritage, offering a unique perspective on the landmark events that have shaped the spirit of InterContinental Genève.

Elegantly arranged across 19 frames, this exhibition traces the six decades of our legendary establishment, highlighting key moments, particularly those linked to major political events, that have shaped the reputation of our hotel and the city of Geneva. At its inauguration, the InterContinental Genève was the largest hotel in Switzerland, a symbol of architectural boldness and refinement.

Sophia Loren, an icon of Italian cinema, is at the heart of this exhibition. Her presence at the InterContinental Geneva enhanced our international renown, attracting a host of American stars. Moreover, our magnificent ballroom has been the stage for crucial diplomatic meetings, where significant agreements were forged, reinforcing Geneva’s role on the global stage.

This exhibition is the result of ten months of meticulous work, during which we delved into our archives, rediscovered original photographs, and revisited historical newspapers. The writing, translation, and selection of each text and image were carried out with artisanal precision, before the whole ensemble came to life through custom-made frames, enhanced with golden accents for a luxurious finish.
